Hello Residents of Sembawang GRC,
I am Raiyian Chia. Most people know me as a swimming coach, but my journey didn’t begin in the pool.
For more than a decade, I worked as a project engineer across multiple industries, managing construction timelines, coordinating teams, and setting up technical operations both locally and overseas. It was tough work that demanded discipline, problem-solving, and resilience. I learned how to handle pressure, how to lead quietly, and how to adapt fast, skills I now carry with me in every area of life.
These days, I coach both young swimmers and adult learners, helping them not just improve their strokes, but discover their inner grit. Whether it’s training before sunrise or seeing someone swim their first lap, I have learned that real progress starts with belief, and a little push in the right direction. In between lessons, I work as a private-hire driver. It might surprise some, but this has been one of the most eye-opening roles I have had. From the front seat, I have heard stories from all walks of life, single parents, retirees, students, tourists, hawkers, nurses. I get a real, unfiltered look at what people are going through. It’s humbled me, grounded me, and reminded me what really matters.
What I hear most? That many Singaporeans are feeling the squeeze. Cost of living, sustainability, fair opportunities, they want solutions that don’t just look good on paper, but actually improve lives on the ground. That’s why I am stepping into politics. I want to be a bridge between the ground and the government. A voice for the people who don’t always get heard. A fighter for policies that make a practical difference.
I believe Singapore can be a leader in sustainability, not just in high-tech solutions, but in how we care for our environment, our workers, and each other. If elected, I will push for green jobs, community-led sustainability initiatives, and cost-of-living policies that don’t leave anyone behind.
I am also incredibly proud to be running alongside our dedicated NSP team. We may come from different paths, education, engineering, coaching, SME owners, but we share the same heart for service. Together, we want to help build a new vision for the north: Kampung Chic Sembawang.
It’s a Sembawang that stays true to its roots, but grows into something more, a vibrant town with modern lifestyle options, inclusive spaces, and community spirit. A place where families can thrive, local businesses can shine, and every generation feels at home.
We can build that future together. We just need the courage to choose it. Progress must be shared to be sustainable. That’s what I believe. And I hope to earn the chance to serve you in Parliament, with honesty, humility, and heart.
Thank you
Raiyian Chia
